What
today’s headlines mean to tourists to Israel.
| An emotional, meaningful
experience that continues to rise in popularity among travelers to Israel
is the decision to hold a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah ceremony here. The
event marks a reason for both first-time and repeat travel to Israel.
The
simplest way to arrange a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah in
Israel is to work with the agents at About Family Travel,
who specialize in Jewish family travel.
About Family Travel, tour
and travel organizers, can customize a package to meet our clients' needs
and provide complimentary arrangements for the Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah
teen.
Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah
can be celebrated throughout Israel; there is no shortage of significant
religious sites.
An added value of celebrating
this rite of passage in Israel is that the young adult can experience his
or her Jewish heritage and culture in the land where it all began. For
the families that accompany the young adult, it is equally emotional; a
memory for a lifetime. |
A Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah
celebration in Israel can be an unforgetable experience. The following
basic information is to assist those who wish to plan ceremonies at the
Western Wall. On Massada, or any other chosen site, a boy must be at least
thirteen years and one day (according to the Hebrew calendar) to be Bar
Mitzvah; a girl, twelve years and one day to be Bat Mitzvah.
A Bar Mitzvah at the Western
Wall, Jerusalem
Ceremonies at the Western Wall
may be held on Mondays or Thursdays. The Bar Mitzvah boy wears tefillin
and may read a portion (Maftir) of the Torah (Old Testament). On Rosh Hodesh
(first day of the Month), Chanukah (Feast of Lights), the intermediate
days of Pesach (Passover) and Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles), the celebrant
recites the blessing before and after the Torah reading and can also chant
the appropriate Torah reading.
The ceremony at the Western
Wall is free of charge. However, a donation may be made. Each family can
make arrangements with their own rabbi to officiate at the ceremony. The
Western Wall rabbi will also arrange for Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah ceremonies. |

Massada
Arrangements for a Bar Mitzvah
or Bat Mitzvah on Massada should be coordinated in advance by the accompanying
rabbi, through About Family Travel. The request should include dates and
times preferred. The number of participants dictates the location on Massada
and method of arrival at the summit (Cable Car, Snake Path or Western Arad
approach).
Neot Kedumim Biblical Landscape
Reserve
Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah ceremonies
at Neot Kedumim include a tour of this unique artificial nature reserve
which ties in with the portion of the week (Haftora). The reserve's outdoor
theatre, seating approximately 600 people, is the site of the celebration.
Kosher vegetarian or dairy, light meals or refreshments are also available
on request. Arrangements should be made with the accompanying rabbi through
About Family Travel.
Synagogues
Arrangements for Bar Mitzvah
or Bat Mitzvah can also be made with the desired synagogue in Israel.
Reform or Conservative ceremonies
can be celebrated on Massada or at any of the sites (except the Western
Wall). |
