Day 1:
Depart USA to Rio de Janeiro - Welcome to Rio! Upon arrival at Rio
de Janeiro's Galeao Airport, clear customs and immigrations. After
claiming your luggage, you will be met and assisted by our local
representatives and transferred to your hotel. Overnight accommodations
at the 4-star Hotel, breakfast included 3 nights. City tax not included
must be paid in person at check-in.
Day 2: Half-Day Rio
de Janeiro - Tour perhaps one of South America's most famous
landmarks, the Christ Statue atop Corcovado Mountain commands a
fabulous view of Rio below. Along with your local English-speaking
guide, you'll travel to the top of Corcovado Mountain to visit this
landmark. Your half-day tour also includes a visit to the Tijuca
Forest, also known as "Rio's Lungs" for its densely forested hills.
Lunch is included.
Day 3: Continuing touring Rio de Janeiro with local English
speaking guide.
Day
4: Rio de Janeiro to Iguaçu Falls - You will be picked up at
your hotel and transferred to the domestic terminal at Galeao Airport.
Pay domestic airport tax and check in for your flight to Iguaçu.
Upon arrival you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight
accommodations are at a hotel located close to the falls, daily
breakfast included - 2 nights.
Day 5: Iguaçu
Falls - Included in your stay at the hotel is a half-day group
tour exploring the Brazilian side of the falls. You will be taken
across the 500,000 acre Iguaçu
National Park, one of the greatest ecological reserves in the
world and home to many species of birds, mammals and plants. Afterward,
you reach an overlook from where you have a breathtaking view of
the falls. The thunderous roar of crashing water and the multicolored
mist rising above the falls is one of the world's most impressive
sights. A 45-minute walk descends through subtropical forest to
the bottom of Floriano Falls. From here, an elevator returns you
to the top of the falls. The entrance fee is not included.
Day 6: Iguaçu Falls to São
Paulo to Manaus - You'll be picked up from your hotel and be
transferred to the airport. Pay domestic airport tax and check in
for your flight to Manaus with a connection in São Paulo. Upon arrival
in Manaus, you'll be met and transferred to the dock, where you'll
board the 112-foot M/V. This fully equipped sailing vessel will
be your comfortable base for exploring the tributaries of the Amazon
River. Accommodations are in small cabins, each with a private bathroom.
After departure, you will receive a briefing about the upcoming
adventure, while sailing down river to the famous "meeting of the
waters". Here the silt waters of the Amazon River meet the dark
brown tannin-rich waters of the Rio Negro, and run parallel to one
another for several miles without mixing. Navigating toward Lake
January, the boat will anchor and you will set out on a canoe excursion
to the shore. Here you'll have your first encounter with the natives
of the region. Back on the ship you'll marvel at the dense green
Amazon forest as the ship heads for the overnight anchor Praia do
Tatu.
Day
7: Aboard the M/V boat - After an early breakfast you'll head
out for a guided hike through one of the most biological diverse
rain forests in the world, accompanied by your local guide. The
surrounding jungle is home to abundant species of birds, mammals
and reptiles, as well as many species of plants including orchids,
bromeliads and palms. Along with your guide, you'll learn about
the complex ecosystems at work here. Returning to the boat, you'll
have time for a refreshing swim before lunch, which is served on
board while sailing to Samauma Island, located in the Anavilhanas
Archipelago, the largest river archipelago in the world. In the
afternoon you'll explore the islands, lakes and lagoons in search
of wildlife and in the evening you'll enjoy dinner served on board.
After dinner, head out in small motorized canoes to experience the
nighttime sounds of the Amazon rain forest and to perhaps spot caiman
lurking in the dark waters of the Rio Negro.
Day 8: Aboard the M/V boat - Another day in the Amazon! After
breakfast the boat will continue towards Santa Maria, a typical
village where you will have the opportunity to experience the "Ribeirinho"
(river dweller) way of living. You will stop here for breakfast,
before continuing on for your next stop. After lunch another shore
excursion, and an afternoon of fishing for the infamous piranha
that dwells in certain parts of the river. After dinner this evening,
once again we'll head out for a nighttime excursion in search of
caiman.
Day
9: Manaus to Salvador
da Bahia - Wake up bright and early for a morning bird watching
excursion to experience the cacophonous sound of the birds of the
Amazon. After returning to the boat for breakfast, you'll begin
your return sail back to Manaus, upon arriving. You will be transferred
to the airport for your flight to Salvador da Bahia. Airport reception
and transfer to your hotel in Salvador DA Bahia. Overnight at the
5-star Hotel, breakfast included - 2 nights.
Day 10: Salvador da Bahia - Tour with local English speaking
guide.
Day 11: Salvador DA Bahia to Rio de Janeiro to Departure
- You'll be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport.
Check in for your flight. Upon arrival, proceed to the international
terminal. Pay Brazil departure tax and check in for flight. BOA
